CHANGES COMING TO THE OKLAHOMA MENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT

The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services’ Board passed several measures to improve the quality of mental health services in Oklahoma. For patients needing treatment the State will now require those services to be provided by people who have a higher level of education and experience in the field. The current system allows for persons with bachelor’s or master’s degrees to provide services but going forward only those with a master’s degree will be considered qualified. The Department hopes this change will provide an increased level of care and help people tackle their addictions more effectively.
