CHECKING IN ON THE STATE’S BUDGET

The legislative session this time around should have more money to work with than in previous sessions. Tax increases have helped add to the state’s budget, with an estimated $574 million more in revenue this year. This money is used for necessary projects and programs, and a portion will be set aside for savings. Of note is the use of funds to pay for teacher raises, an issue that was front and center about this time last year, and one that is not likely to go away anytime soon. Tell us what you think, where should the state spend its money and who do you think benefits the most from an increase in the bottom line?
