DOES TRUMP HAVE PLANS TO HELP PRISONERS?

A large part of President Trump’s campaign platform was to be “tough on crime”. So it is a bit surprising that the Trump administration recently made statements that seem at odds with this campaign “promise”. But in this instance, the statements made are being met with positive feedback. Trump has been quoted as saying it is important for “those that enter the justice system are able to contribute to their communities after they leave prison.” This is a sentiment echoed here at home as well, as the director for the Department of Corrections has repeatedly pushed for initiatives that give inmates the chance to participate in programs that prepare them for a productive life outside prison walls. A few ways both the State and Federal government can achieve this goal is by offering rehabilitative services in the areas of mental health and drug addiction.
