GOOD NEWS FOR OKLAHOMA TEACHERS

The controversy surrounding low teacher pay in Oklahoma may have finally come to a head. The Step Up Oklahoma Coalition has been pushing for educational reforms, one of them being an increase in teacher pay. The Coalition’s purpose is to help stabilize the state’s floundering budget by raising taxes to fill the holes. The idea is to raise taxes on certain things, like cigarettes. The extra money would be used to give teachers a boost in their pay. The proposal passed committee approval in early February and we now wait to see what next steps will be taken to fix the budget and give teachers a competitive wage.
