Animals are special gifts, and those that are lucky enough to be pet owners know the joy of being entrusted to care for an animal and the rewards of having a pet. But too many animals are living in shelters, and the environment can be stressful. To help ease the pain shelter dogs feel, a composer who has worked with The Supremes, The Temptations, and The Commodores has written soothing songs for play in animal shelters. The music is a mix of lullaby with heartbeats and has been found to reduce barking and lower the stress level of dogs. The idea came in an unusual way and was originally meant for use in nursing homes. It just goes to show; a soothing song can really take the edge off and probably has benefits for humans as well. We all tend to take on too much and should give ourselves a break when possible, by slowing down and taking time to reflect on the important things in life.
