INITIATIVES TO LOWER CRIME IN OKC

Oklahoma City Police are using a grant, the South OKC Safe Grant, as a way to track and hopefully lower crime in S. OKC. Over $370,000.00 in grant money was given to the department, to step up efforts and identifying and fighting crime in this high crime area. The grant provides the funds for overtime pay, so officers can have more of a presence in the area and reach out to community members as a way of partnering with the residents to stay safe. Officers have been talking to residents to learn what issues they see the most frequently, so resources can be focused where they are needed the most. Most residents were unaware of the program, but reports state they are happy with the effort and are working with law enforcement to have their voices and concerns heard.
