LEGAL TIP OF THE WEEK: HOW TO KEEP YOUR PASSWORDS SAFE AND SECURE

If you have ever received information that your debit card has been compromised and the bank is sending you a new one, you are keenly aware of the need to keep your data safe. But all too often people use passwords that are easy to guess, with “123456” being one of the most popular passwords used today. When you use a password like this, or answer online surveys with personal information, you are an easy target for a security breach. One report hints at the idea of doing away with passwords altogether, which is not that far off from becoming a technological possibility. Consider how the most popular smart phone, the iPhone, already has fingerprint technology in place. But until the time comes where you will not need a password and can rely on voice or face activation, you are better off coming up with a password that is unique, and that contains a mixture of upper and lower case letters as well as numbers and special characters.
