Several states in the country have legalized marijuana, if not for recreational use then at least for medicinal purposes. Oklahoma has not yet taken this step, and some argue the need to do so simply does not exist. It has been said that when marijuana is legalized the State benefits financially, and also sees a decrease in criminal arrests. Ignoring or manipulating these benefits in a push to avoid legalization fails to take into account current crime statistics such as prison overcrowding and too harsh sentences for non-violent offenses. The better answer is not to fail to legalize marijuana, but rather to find remedies for the times when the criminal just system does not work as intended.
