LEGAL TIP OF THE WEEK: DOWNTOWN OKC TRAVEL NEWS

Many experts believe the meth crisis faced in Oklahoma will soon give way to a crisis of overdose of heroin, or prescription painkillers. Of these two, prescription drugs present a unique set of characteristics legally speaking. Given that these drugs are prescribed by a physician, it can be difficult to define what acts rise to the level of a crime. Another interesting thing about this type of drug use is that when taken in excess, another drug is needed to combat the effects. Naloxone will counteract the effects of most prescription opioids, such as hydrocodone, and many law enforcement officials now carry naloxone with them and use it regularly. Reports estimate the ability of law enforcement to carry this drug has saved many Oklahomans from suffering an opioid overdose. This is good news, but issues of law still remain.
