Nearly everyone is familiar with the term “internet”, but you may not be as familiar with the “darknet”. Basically, a darknet site is one that engages in activities that are not legal. These sites may look a lot like, and operate a lot like a legitimate site such as eBay or Amazon, but the transactions taking place are not legal. Some examples are sites that deal in weapons or drugs, one well-known site of this type being AlphaBay. The site is so similar to a legitimate site that it even offers customer support services. Keep in mind though, that your actions on these sites are no more legal than if you were to buy a firearm in a back alley. If caught, you face the same type of criminal charges. And getting caught is a possibility, even though these types of sites take extra steps to stay “hidden”. Skilled trackers can still find illegal activity, and the punishment you could face is not worth it!
