REMEMBERING MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

Every January most of the country takes a day to remember civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. King was an activist during the civil rights movement, and fought for equality among citizens by pushing for equality through civil disobedience. King was a proponent of peaceful demonstrations and is one of the most well-known public figures in recent history. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and is credited with some of the most inspiring public speeches, including his famous “I have a dream” speech. King was assassinated in 1968, as he was planning to march on Washington for the rights of the economically distressed members of society. In remembrance of King’s strides in the push for racial and social equality, we celebrate his life every January.
