WHAT IS ON THE LEGAL AGENDA FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE?

It is no secret Oklahoma is in need of reforming its criminal justice system, and that measures were advanced during the last legislative session. Now that new reps and senators have been sworn in, the time is right to pick up where the last session left off – with introducing legislation to tackle some of the most important issues. Among the issues on the agenda are what to do about prison overcrowding, how to classify crimes and maintaining a system that is fair for all. With much more support and an increased awareness of the need to overhaul the criminal justice system in certain areas (such as mental health court and what constitutes a dangerous crime versus a non-violent offense), the current legislative session may be just the time to get the important work done that Oklahoma deserves.
