Along with the Equifax data breach there have also been breaches by sites liked LinkedIn, MySpace, Dropbox, and Kickstarter. While these sites may not have had a hand in any breach of personal information, the fact remains that hackers frequent these domains trolling for information and stealing it whenever possible. The term “pwned” is a reference to video gamers use of the phrase “owned” which means having been defeated. Being defeated is certainly a good analogy to how you feel if your social security or financial data is stolen. So, along with freezing any Equifax and TransUnion files you have, you should also consider doing a quick brush up on other sites you frequent to make sure any data you have shared there has not fallen into the hands of cyber criminals.
