WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FACIAL RECOGNITION SOFTWARE

Microsoft is asking the federal government to regulate facial recognition software, to help prevent abusive practices that might result from the use of the software. The technology is capable of storing photos that can be used to “match” a person’s identity, but when used improperly can have detrimental impact on innocent people. The request for federal oversight is not one typically made by those in the technology industry, but given the possible consequences, the move to ask for regulation could be seen as a smart move on the part of the company.
