A TRIBUTE TO DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

The third Monday in January every year is set aside to pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King was a pioneer in human rights, promoting non-violent activism for Civil Rights. President Ronald Reagan made the holiday official in 1983, with the first MLK Day being celebrated three years later. Even then, not all of the states recognized the day or renamed the holiday. It was not until 2000, just 18 short years ago, that all 50 states began recognizing the holiday. Our office is committed to equal treatment for all people and we honor Dr. King today for his vision and hard work to promote equality through peaceful means.
