CAN YOU GO TO COLLEGE FROM BEHIND BARS?

Yes, you can. And an extension on an existing program is rolling out that allows inmates to apply for financial aid. The US Department of Education offers grants and loans, the big difference being a grant does not have to be repaid. The Pell Grant program’s Second Chance initiative is being extended to give more time for more inmates to take advantage of what is offered. Getting an education while serving time is a great way to get prepared for re-entry into society, and will give inmates a better shot at making it on the outside because they’ll have the education needed to get a good job and show they are serious about making a change.
