ELECTRONIC SEARCHES MAY BECOME CUSTOMARY AT CUSTOMS
We all know that travel into the states by foreigners is under the microscope. The Trump administration pledged to crack down on illegal immigration, and now it may be possible that those entering the country turn over their devices for inspection. Customs and Border Protection may begin asking for access to files and photos on phones and other electronic devices at US entry points. This type of search is seen by many as an invasion of privacy, but these searches have been being conducted for a while. In fact, it has been reported that just over 30,000 device searches were conducted for part of the 2017 year. Despite the controversy, digital searches are only likely to increase as use of technology evolves.
