HOW TO DRESS FOR COURT

If you have been charged with a crime and are required to appear in Court, you need to be sure and dress appropriately. This does not mean going out and getting a fancy suit or dress, but it does mean making sure you have on the proper clothes when standing before the Judge. Never wear a hat or dark sunglasses to Court, and be sure to avoid ripped or torn clothing. A nice shirt and pair of pants or skirt will usually do the trick. Stay away from shorts and flip flops, because the Court and Judge expect every person in attendance to respect the judicial process. When talking to the Court, always be sure to say yes or no sir/mam and do not raise your voice to the Judge. Being polite and respectful goes a long way, and shows you take the charges against you seriously.
