IS A TEACHER WALKOUT A REAL POSSIBILITY?

The rate of teacher pay in Oklahoma has long been front and center of most every major headline or news story. But teachers across the State are now ready to take action, and with the backing of the Oklahoma Education Association (OEA), the pressure is on the legislature to take action quickly. The OEA recently advised state lawmakers that if teacher raises and funding for education was not forthcoming by April 23, teachers across the state would stage a walk out. A walk out would effectively shut down Oklahoma public schools, leaving the entire system in limbo. Since the announcement of the April 23 deadline, the OEA removed that date as a drop dead requirement and has instead stated the end goal is not for teachers to walk out for a date to be thrown out as a line in the sand, but for education funding to be given the attention it deserves. What are your thoughts on the state of education in Oklahoma? We’d be interested to hear how our clients and followers react to this developing story.
