NEW FEES TO BE CHARGED BY DHS FOR CHILD SUPPORT COLLECTION

Blog Post, current events

The state of the State’s budget is perilous. Lawmakers have been working tirelessly to come up with ways to balance the budget and trim costs so existing expenses are not burdensome. Several proposals have been made, and several have been shot down. A recent report now shows that DHS, in their ongoing efforts to help cut costs, will begin charging a fee to collect child support. That means the parent in desperate need for child support, who is not getting it, will now have to pay DHS a fee to collect. This may well save money for the State, but many disagree that shifting that burden to already financially distressed parents is not a good solution.
