WILL JUDGES BE REPLACED BY ROBOTS IN THE FUTURE?

With so many jobs being performed by automated workers (robots) recently, it is hard to image a profession where a machine will not eventually take over. But one place that seems unlikely is the Courthouse, where defendants and lawyers routinely appear before a Judge who must analyze the facts of a case and apply the law. It seems nearly impossible to replace these tasks with a robot, which lacks the ability to reason. However, that does not mean the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the legal community is nonexistent. Technology is available that helps sort through mountains of legal issues and precedent, and then provides attorneys with probable outcomes for similar cases. This can come in handy as a research tool, giving lawyers the data needed to properly prepare for Court.
