STATE SENATE LOOKING TO LIMIT OPIOID PRESCRIPTIONS

It is no secret that Oklahoma has an opioid problem. But finding a solution to this crisis has taken some time, with several legislative measures having been introduced. The latest bill to take shape would limit the amount of pain pills a doctor could prescribe in a given time period. The State Senate has kicked around the idea of allowing patients to receive only a week’s worth of pain pills at a time, with restrictions on when a doctor could write a second week’s worth of medication. This act may not be the answer, and until there is something concrete on the books there will still be instances where drugs are overused. There will also continue to be criminal charges filed against people who run afoul of the written laws, and when that happens we are here to help. This measure may also cause problems for patients with legitimate needs, such as those needing pain pills to recover from a recent surgery. In that instance, it is unreasonable to expect a patient to call their doctor every six days, in the hope that the doctor will be able to prescribe much needed medication.
