HOW TO STOP THE SPREAD OF “FAKE NEWS”

“Fake news” is a relatively new term, but has taken center stage in most news stories. Part of the problem is the ability of anyone with internet access to repeat a story they’ve heard. The use of social media presents unique problems with spreading news that has not been faced in decades past. This issue has caused many sites, such as Facebook and most recently YouTube, to implement policies on content and privacy. The latest movement comes from YouTube, where the social media outlet is taking measures to prevent users from posting what they consider “conspiracy videos”. A conspiracy video is one where misinformation is quickly shared, and YouTube hopes to prevent misinformation by linking credible sources to videos posted.
