KEEP TO THE RIGHT, OR GET TICKETED: WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?

When Oklahoma drivers will have to abide by new laws in November 2017, by using the left lane on a divided highway only for passing, this means you will need to pay extra special attention to your driving habits. You cannot drive over the speed limit to pass, which is also the current law but may seem more difficult to do without use of the left lane on a regular basis. You also cannot use the left lane as a “speed zone”, whereby left lane drivers go slowly in that lane to prevent other drivers from exceeding the speed limit. If you are pulled over for violating this new law, a ticket could run you a few hundred dollars. The test to determine if a driver has violated the law could be seen as in the eye of the beholder, the beholder being the officer who pulls you over, so expect challenges to tickets to be made once this law goes into effect.
