CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM IS FAST TRACKED IN OKLAHOMA

Earlier this summer Governor Mary Fallin signed a final round of bills calling for reform of Oklahoma’s criminal justice system. Chief among the bills passed are initiatives to help with the problem of prison overcrowding, and lower the overall incarceration rate in the State. These reforms have been in the works for about a year, and many legislators claim the proposals here at home were modeled after similar steps taken in Texas. The difference is that it took Texas closer to six years to come up with final versions, and the more expedient approach taken by the Oklahoma Legislature may not yield the desired results.
