DO TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES IN CARS REALLY MAKE IT SAFER TO DRIVE?

Blog Post, current events, latest, News

We all know the dangers of texting and driving, or being distracted in some other way by an electronic device while behind the wheel. Automakers cannot control how drivers behave while driving, but are taking steps to include features that make it safer to drive in today’s technologically advanced era. But just how much safer is it to have a navigation system call out turn by turn directions, if you program the system while driving? Or, how safe is it to use a hands free device if the driver can still override certain safety restrictions? These questions have been answered by a study done at the University of Utah. The findings are startling! Drivers seem to be more distracted by electronics even with built in safety features, for up to 40 seconds when doing things like sending a text or entering an address into a GPS system. The best advice remains to avoid use of any device while driving, and give your full attention to your driving habits.
