WHAT IS MARSY’S LAW?

Marsy’s Law gives victims of crimes certain rights. Among the rights victims have are the right to receive notice of developments in the case against their accused, the right to receive updates when the defendant is scheduled to be released from jail, and the right to testify at hearings where sentencing or release may be considered. The law is in its infancy in Oklahoma and officials hope to make implementation uniform in the larger counties as well as rural areas. Legislators have also been hard at work to implement the rights granted under Marsy’s law with existing statutes.
