For a few months now we’ve been updating you on a new traffic law, set to take effect in November. The law in question pertains to hanging out in the left lane, and the State’s new prohibition on that driving pattern. Beginning next month, if you are caught impeding traffic by staying in the left lane, you can be ticketed. There are exceptions, such as moving over for a stopped vehicle on the shoulder, but critics of the new law say these circumstances may be difficult to prove as they contain an element of subjectiveness (meaning only the driver can make the determination as to whether moving over to the left lane is necessary, an officer making the traffic stop may not have all the relevant facts to make this decision). As implementation of this new rule takes its place, keep checking back for more information.
