LEGAL TIP OF THE WEEK
WHAT IS AN EXPUNGEMENT?
An expungement is an order from the Court that seals certain records. The benefit is that once your records have been sealed, they are no longer visible for public viewing. This comes in handy if you are looking for a job, want to keep the job you have, need to rent a house or apartment, or just want to keep harmful information off of your record. The way it works is that you have to apply for an expungement, and let the Court know why you believe you are entitled to the order. Once the order is entered, any agency that has record of your charges and/or arrest is given a copy so they can “wipe the slate clean”. If you want to find out more about whether you qualify for an expungement and how it can help you, call our office today.
